THE AREA

Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island is nestled amongst the Whitsunday Islands, a group of 74 islands just off the Queensland coast, at the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Hamilton Island is one of the most popular Whitsunday islands offering an idyllic island experience. Set amidst pristine surroundings, Hamilton Island offers a multitude of activities and luxurious accommodation options to suit the most discerning traveller. You’ll be spoilt for choice with sea-kayaking, game fishing, scenic helicopter flights and ‘Breakfast with the Koalas’ at the Koala Gallery. Of course, you might simply want to concentrate on doing nothing at all, and lay around one of the pools or simply relax on the beach. Hamilton Island is also a gateway to other gems in the Whitsundays including Heart Reef, Hill Inlet and Whitehaven Beach.

Sydney

Sydney is the oldest, largest and (some say) most beautiful city in Australia and is memorable for far more than its famous landmarks. Created around one of the world’s most dazzling harbours, there’s no doubt that the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House deserve their dues. Enjoy its legendary beauty, its laid-back outdoor lifestyle and icons such as the Sydney Opera House, the graceful span of the Harbour Bridge and the golden sands of Bondi.

Melbourne

Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria, set around the shores of Port Phillip Bay. The city itself, boasts a lively and cosmopolitan pulse, and is world famous for its cuisine, arts and sporting events.  Melbourne sits on the northern banks of the Yarra River, approximately five kilometres from the bay.

Barnbougle, Tasmania

Barnbougle, located on the rugged northern coastline of Tasmania, is home to two of Australia’s top 10 Golf Courses, Lost Farm and The Dunes.  Renowned for its, untouched wilderness, pristine coastline, cool climate wines and fresh local produce, Barnbougle is one of the most ideal places in the world for a links golf course.  It’s on this coastal strip, where stark beaches fold into undulating farmlands, that Barnbougle Golf Links has been crafted out of an extraordinary landscape.  With fresh Tasmanian air and the omnipresent echo of crashing waves, Barnbougle is the perfect golfing getaway.

THE GOLF

Barnbougle Dunes

Barnbougle Dunes, rated #5 golf course in Australia and #11 in the world is a links golf course unlike any other in Australia.  The Dunes is a spectacular example of traditional links golf.  The outward nine at Barnbougle Dunes plays through a series of saddles that both shelter and direct play lines. The back nine is more open but arguably more striking, with multiple panoramas of the course, adjoining the bay and nearby Bridport.  Barnbougle Dunes is a course that rewards strategic thinking.

Barnbougle Lost Farm

Lost Farm, ranked #9 in Australia, is an exciting 20 hole links course on Tasmania’s north east coast and provides a challenge for golfers of all levels of experience.  Adjacent to the Dunes, Lost Farm is remarkably different featuring 20 holes all of which are playable in one round.  The course layout follows the coast and inland amongst steep sand dunes with strategic bunkering and undulating greens combining with wide fairways.

Kingston Health Golf Club

Kingston Heath Golf Club is ranked as the #2 course in Australia and the 27th best course in the world, Kingston Heath enjoys an enviable reputation for its superb conditioning all year round.
The 18 holes were built on only 125 hectares (most courses in the modern era are built on over 250 hectares), it is perfectly manicured and its bunkering and clever use of dips and hollows visually fools the non- observant golfer.

The three par 3 holes are a feature of Kingston Heath and show off one fantastic feature of this great golf course – the classic, natural bunkering. The fifteenth hole, in particular, is a real test (not necessarily needed towards the end of your round).

Kingston Heath has hosted the Australian Open 8 times (7 men’s & 1 women’s) as well as hosting the 2009 Australian Masters. This event saw world number 1 golfer Tiger Woods grace the fairways of The Heath, and he didn’t disappoint, displaying superb shot-making over 4 rounds to take out the yellow jacket.

Huntingdale Golf Club

Huntingdale Golf Club, located in the heart of Melbourne’s famous sandbelt region, is one of Australia’s premier championship golf courses.  Consistently rated as one of the best conditioned courses in the country, Huntingdale is also the Sandbelt’s youngest.

Huntingdale was designed by renowned English golf architect CH Alison and is today the only example of his work to be found in Australia.

The course greets golfers with superbly manicured fairways, strategic bunkering, large true greens and great memories of the Australian Masters.  This combination of features ensures that Huntingdale will definitely be a challenge for even the most avid golfer.

A course highlight is the 8th hole.  Like so many on the sandbelt, it is made by a beautiful green.  The hole is only a drive and a pitch but the green is ever so subtly set to play advantageously to a drive down the left.  The left line is defended by tea-tree and the fairway stretches far to the right encouraging players to play far away from the ideal line into the flag.

The Lakes Golf Club

The Lakes is one of Australia’s pre-eminent private clubs and one of the leading major tournament venues in Australia.  The course provides the golfer with a unique opportunity to play one of Australia’s most famous layouts in a serene environment on outstandingly presented playing surfaces.

The extraordinary layout of The Lakes is one of the most memorable golfing experiences in Australia.  The four Par 5s including the famous water carry on the 14th hole provide a challenging test for every golfer.

New South Wales Golf Club

Situated on the rugged cliffs at La Perouse, New South Wales Golf Club overlooks Botany Bay where Captain James Cook first sailed into Australia in 1770.

The course is a wonderful combination of undulating fairways, beautiful scenic vistas and a spectacular Clubhouse which is a combination of traditional architecture and five star comfort.

The course is edged by water on three sides and has many of the characteristics of a true links course.  Wild and exposed the course offers tremendous views and a series of stunning holes built around, over and through the hills and valleys that lead toward the coastline.  Undulating fairways and small greens which call for great skill makes this an extremely difficult course to forget.

THE GOLF

Royal Melbourne Golf Club

Royal Melbourne Golf Club is a 36-hole golf club in Australia, located in Black Rock, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne. Its West and East courses are respectively ranked number 1 and 7 in Australia. The West course is ranked in the top ten courses in the world (or outside the United States) Founded in 1891, it is Australia’s oldest extant and continually existing golf club. Royal Melbourne has hosted numerous national and international events, including the 1959 Canada Cup (now Mission Hills World Cup), and the 1970 World Cup. It was selected by the PGA Tour to hold the Presidents Cup, for the first time outside the United States, in December 1998. The match was convincingly won by the International team, captained by Peter Thomson, who had himself earlier served as the Club professional at Royal Melbourne. The course hosted the Presidents Cup again in November 2011, won by the United States. The course also hosted the Women’s Australian Open for the first time in February 2012, now an LPGA tour event.  Royal Melbourne has just been announced the host of the 2019 President’s Cup.

Peninsula Country Golf Club

The Peninsula Country Golf Club enjoys a reputation as one of the premier private golf clubs in Australia, with two golf courses ranked in Australia’s top 30 and club facilities of the highest standard.

Perfectly situated at the Gateway to the Mornington Peninsula and only a short drive from the other Sand Belt courses in Melbourne, both Peninsula’s South and North courses are rated amongst the finest in Australia. Peninsula offers 36 holes of golf in the form of North and South courses. The courses complement one another well – the South is a championship course longer, flatter and more open than the North. The North on the other hand is a tighter course, more pronounced in its undulations and there are more trees to catch the wayward shot. It also offers guests the opportunity to stay in picturesque on-course accommodation with excellent on-site dining facilities and club house.
