THE GOLF

Royal Melbourne Golf Club

Royal Melbourne Golf Club is a 36-hole golf club in Australia, located in Black Rock, Victoria, a suburb of Melbourne. Its West and East courses are respectively ranked number 1 and 7 in Australia. The West course is ranked in the top ten courses in the world (or outside the United States) Founded in 1891, it is Australia’s oldest extant and continually existing golf club. Royal Melbourne has hosted numerous national and international events, including the 1959 Canada Cup (now Mission Hills World Cup), and the 1970 World Cup. It was selected by the PGA Tour to hold the Presidents Cup, for the first time outside the United States, in December 1998. The match was convincingly won by the International team, captained by Peter Thomson, who had himself earlier served as the Club professional at Royal Melbourne. The course hosted the Presidents Cup again in November 2011, won by the United States. The course also hosted the Women’s Australian Open for the first time in February 2012, now an LPGA tour event.  Royal Melbourne has just been announced the host of the 2019 President’s Cup.

Kingston Health Golf Club

Kingston Heath Golf Club is ranked as the #2 course in Australia and the 27th best course in the world, Kingston Heath enjoys an enviable reputation for its superb conditioning all year round.

The 18 holes were built on only 125 hectares (most courses in the modern era are built on over 250 hectares), it is perfectly manicured and its bunkering and clever use of dips and hollows visually fools the non- observant golfer.

The three par 3 holes are a feature of Kingston Heath and show off one fantastic feature of this great golf course – the classic, natural bunkering. The fifteenth hole, in particular, is a real test (not necessarily needed towards the end of your round).

Kingston Heath has hosted the Australian Open 8 times (7 men’s & 1 women’s) as well as hosting the 2009 Australian Masters. This event saw world number 1 golfer Tiger Woods grace the fairways of The Heath, and he didn’t disappoint, displaying superb shot-making over 4 rounds to take out the yellow jacket.

Huntingdale Golf Club

Huntingdale Golf Club, located in the heart of Melbourne’s famous sandbelt region, is one of Australia’s premier championship golf courses.  Consistently rated as one of the best conditioned courses in the country, Huntingdale is also the Sandbelt’s youngest.

Huntingdale was designed by renowned English golf architect CH Alison and is today the only example of his work to be found in Australia.

The course greets golfers with superbly manicured fairways, strategic bunkering, large true greens and great memories of the Australian Masters.  This combination of features ensures that Huntingdale will definitely be a challenge for even the most avid golfer.

A course highlight is the 8th hole.  Like so many on the sandbelt, it is made by a beautiful green.  The hole is only a drive and a pitch but the green is ever so subtly set to play advantageously to a drive down the left.  The left line is defended by tea-tree and the fairway stretches far to the right encouraging players to play far away from the ideal line into the flag.

Peninsula Country Golf Club

The Peninsula Country Golf Club enjoys a reputation as one of the premier private golf clubs in Australia, with two golf courses ranked in Australia’s top 30 and club facilities of the highest standard.

Perfectly situated at the Gateway to the Mornington Peninsula and only a short drive from the other Sand Belt courses in Melbourne, both Peninsula’s South and North courses are rated amongst the finest in Australia. Peninsula offers 36 holes of golf in the form of North and South courses. The courses complement one another well – the South is a championship course longer, flatter and more open than the North. The North on the other hand is a tighter course, more pronounced in its undulations and there are more trees to catch the wayward shot. It also offers guests the opportunity to stay in picturesque on-course accommodation with excellent on-site dining facilities and club house.
